Often racial stereotypes are more reflective of class than race. For example, Black stereotypes are most reflective of a person of any race in poverty. The Asian and Middle Eastern Americans stereotype tend to reflect a person whom is middle classed and Whites tend to be characterized as someone wealthy. The chart below is “The Hidden Rules of Class” from Dr Payne’s “Framework for Understanding Poverty” Review it to see which class reflects your lifestyle. You may be surprised. Continue reading →
[Inside the mind of a struggling alumni] Layoff to payoff

I graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 2007. Since then I’ve been hustling. Had some jobs that I hated-jobs that didn’t require a degree. Made pennies.
The best jobs I ever had were waiting tables, cocktail waitressing, or bartending- making 300-700/night. Never made that any of my “punch clock” jobs.
I’ve been laid off due to the economy 3xs since I graduated. And applied to ever marketing firm, volunteered at every function, had informational interviews, gone back to CAU for speaking engagements-the whole 9. Continue reading →

Do Home Wreckers Really Exist?

Since the creation of marriage, married men (and women) have engaged in infidelity. If you follow Hip-hop, Pop or Politics, you can name a few publicized scandals. Shortly after affairs are revealed in the public eye, the “other woman” is crucified as a harlot and deemed a home wrecker. Have you ever discovered someone is the “other woman” and called her a whore or something worse? Yeah, me neither.
The D.E.N.N.I.S. system of seduction

I’ve heard my female friends complain about some terrible guy that they were dating but kept going back to over and over against their own better judgment. It seemed like the unstable and emotionally draining nature of the relationship was intoxicating to the point of addiction. An episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” explored the D.E.N.N.I.S. system for manipulating women to become “crazy” in love. Is this merely fiction or would this work in reality? Miami: Food, Fun, Sun, and Near Nakedness

This is my favorite time of year… The Miami Black Film Festival. Last year was amazing. I was surrounded by great food and beautiful people. Not to mention, I met TV and film stars like Spawn aka Michael Jai White; Vivica Fox; John Singleton; and as I call her, the light skinned point guard from Love and Basketball. I don’t mean met like they were in VIP and I was across the rope in Gen Pop, I mean I was drinking, eating and sun bathing with celebrities. Continue reading →
